Flying Kiwi Records was founded in Bonn, Germany in 2002 primarily as a vehicle to release New Zealand Roots Rock/Americana artist Mike Brosnan's material to the world. In that, label founder Henriette Guth has been completely successful, with two Mike Brosnan albums ("Wasted Time" and "Beneath Southland Skies") released world-wide to critical acclaim. Also during that time Mike's earlier album "Streets of Glass" was re-released on Flying Kiwi, and a soon-to-be released live CD/DVD produced.

A move to larger premises in Darmstadt, Germany in 2005 provided the opportunity to establish a small recording studio (Woehnzimmer Studios) and a publishing house (Flying Kiwi Musikverlag), and to start looking around for potential artists to either sign or to distribute.

At this time Flying Kiwi's staff had doubled to two while still remaining possibly the World's smallest record label, with the addition of Englishman Mark Brown, whose main task is to deal with their English-speaking clients.

Flying Kiwi's objective is to release albums from talented musicians, irrespective of genre or direction. The sole qualification is that Henriette and Mark MUST like it and believe in its potential! In fact "genre" is a word they do not often use. Everyone knows artists who are folksy but not folk, bluesy but not blues, rocky, but not rock, etc...

At Flying Kiwi, music they like is called "OKOM" or "Our Kind of Music." And they have found that the number of album buyers and listeners interested in OKOM is expanding constantly.
